I do like that framing Jon makes it more 'personal', but yeah. The script tried to make the rest of the world care by blowing up cities around the world instead of just NY, but that probably would piss them off more. Maybe they should have just stuck with NY being destroyed, and the rest of the world terrified that Manhattan had turned on his own country and was therefore more dangerous to everyone. I love the squid and it makes sense! I do wish there could have been a way to adapt it, but I kind of just accept the change and the logic flaws that go with it as part and parcel of adapting to film. My friend made a good point about the squids. It's supposed to be a FOREIGN enemy that brings the world together. She doesn't like the bomb because it's Dr.Manhattan. A LOCAL enemy. Wouldn't you think that you wouldn't want to befriend the country that's home to the weapon that just killed a large portion of your country? It makes sense, now that she says that, but I still prefer the bomb, although the bomb makes Bubastis's existence really weird and almost superfluous.
