Yes, we are aware of the delay, but we wanted to release this episode on this specific date.

October 2nd was the set release date for Shutter Island before it was mysteriously pushed back by Paramount. In honor of this occasion, this week’s episode is all about Shutter Island -the book, the story and our expectations for the movie. Of course, as usual, we first answer to our listener submitted questions.

Listener questions:

By SexyKPistol: “Do you think once Mr. Haley’s NoES(X3) films will make him less fan-friendly(Less random autograph signing, easily agitated by fans, etc.)? Since he will become a horror icon for this new generation.

I will say in my opinion I really hope not, he seems very down to earth. But sometimes things happen and you’re not really sure how those people will react or change.”

By midnite_vision: “Hey, girls! I’m curious. What would you do if you saw Jackie walking down the street, where he’s by himself and not appearing to be in a hurry? Would you be too nervous to do more than smile and wave, or would you go up to him and start gushing (in a non-creepy way, of course)?”

By V.V. : “a friend and I were having an argument over whether or not Rorschach is an anti-hero.  She said JEH is a good actor but “he’s kind of a one-trick pony who always plays anti-heroes”.  And then I gave her about 500 reasons that statment is sheer nonsense, but it did start to make me wonder- would Rorschach be considered an anti-hero?”

Shutter Island back cover summary:

“The year is 1954. U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new partner, Chuck Aule, have come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Multiple murderess Rachel Solando is loose somewhere on this remote and barren island, despite having been kept in a locked cell under constant surveillance. As a killer hurricane bears relentlessly down on them, a strange case takes on even darker, more terrifying shades-with hints of radical experimentation, horrifying surgeries, and lethal countermoves made in the cause of a covert shadow war. No one is going to escape Shutter Island unscathed, because nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems.”

Thanks for answering my question. I, myself, would probably just make eye contact and smile. And, of course, approaching someone when they’re with their family is horrible. (That’s why I specifically said if he was alone.) That’s not much different than what the paparazzi do.

As for “Shutter Island,” I’m really hoping the movie is better than the book. I’m also in the minority, in that I’m not a big fan of the book. I hated the ending, and it was driving me crazy that he kept bringing up certain events over and over again. I do have to agree that the casting is great. I hadn’t seen the trailer when I read it, but I knew Jackie was playing George, and I could hear his voice perfectly in my head when the character was speaking.

Yeah, we didn’t mean to offend anyone with what we said about meeting celebrities, we just get carried away sometimes:)

midnite_vision, we sort of got caught up with the larger question of celebrities/fandom in general. Sorry if we seemed to ignore your qualifiers, you were specific about that and your question was great. <3

I liked the book ok, but yeah, I'm hoping for the movie to rise above it. So far it looks really cool.

Oh, no, no. I wasn’t offended or anything. And I totally understand the getting carried part. I tend to do that when I’m talking to my friends about the stuff I’m really into.

The comments section in this episode has sparked me to post a question that’s been on my mind for a while:which of JEH’s works have you all seen (or not seen, if that would be the better question)?

I just checked my progress on his IMDB page, and was a little surprised to find that I’m not even halfway through (15 our of 42, though 5 of those have yet to be released and another few are nigh impossible to find).

It’s been great listening to you guys every week. The podcast really brightens up the traveling time to and from school for me, so thanks a lot for doing this.
